Counselling and Psychotherapy

Counselling with a qualified professional provides guidance and opportunity to reflect, explore and express what is important and meaningful to you.

I work to offer a safe, creative, non judgemental space promoting hope, self awareness, and ultimately lasting, positive change. Wylde Counsel is a holistic, trauma-informed counselling service that specialises in: working with the whole person - thoughts, feelings and the body - using evidenced-based modalities.

The body holds all of our story. It speaks to us all the time. Life often teaches us to ignore it, reject it or loathe it. Working with your story, psychotherapy may include relearning to listen to the innate wisdom of the body, regaining that childlike curiosity and wonder that invites integration and healing.

Support for issues: trauma, identity; grief, loss and trauma; relationships, couples and family; prenatal/postpartum support; attachment and intimacy; anxiety; depression; spirituality and faith; life transitions; Reminiscence Therapy and Life Review for the ageing.

Couple Wellness Check

If you value your relationship it may be worth considering investing in a Couple Wellness Check. This is a package of four sessions; two ’bookend’ sessions as a couple, and two as individuals. It is a time to review the story of your relationship, and begin conversation about the next chapters you will write together.

Research shows that by the time most couples seek professional help, the relationship has been struggling for many years. This does not have to be true for you. Support from a qualified therapist may be just what is needed to stir a new sense of wonder, respect and curiosity about the most important person in your life.

I am passionate about supporting couples to deeper connection and on-going wellness. If you love and value your partner, and desire to keep growing and changing together, consider this as a gift to your relationship. You will also receive a document summarising the therapeutic journey, as a reminder of strengths, new awareness and changes made.

Tension/Trauma Release Exercises (TRE)

Talk therapy can bring perspective and opportunity for change, but sometimes for lasting impact, body or somatic therapy is also required.

Our bodies hold incredible, innate wisdom and daily, automatically respond to protect us when we sense threat of some kind - often before our ‘thinking brain’ is even aware. You may have experienced:

  • Being in a conversation that escalates to conflict and become aware of a racing heart

  • Shaking or jelly legs after a near miss traffic incident

  • Dry mouth or ‘butterflies’ in the stomach before public speaking

As well as preparing us to flight or flee, our bodies also know how to bring us into recovery mode. Founder of TRE David Berceli, agrees with other trauma specialists that unprocessed stress, tension and trauma is stored in our bodies. TRE is a research-based practice to safely release this load by engaging with the body’s innate ability for spontaneous movement. It can be taught individually or in group contexts, then incorporated into your own rhythm of self-care.

See here for more information.

Physiotherapist, Richmond Heath brought TRE into Australia explains, “this natural reflex is not a ‘symptom’ of stress, shock, anxiety, fear, weakness or loss of control, but one of the primary ways our body releases muscular tension, relaxes the nervous system & restores our mind & body to a calm, relaxed & balanced state.”

Visit here to get you going.

Those practising TRE report increase in: feelings of liveness and vitality, levels of resilience, well-being and peace, creativity and performance, and reduced pain and tension.

Birth Story Processing

Is all about you…

Supporting you to make sense of your birth experience; integrating it into the rest of your life story. It is about making friends with the parts of you that ‘could,’ the parts that ‘couldn’t,’ and the parts that had no choice. You may find hidden strength and beauty in the pain and vulnerability of your birth experience.

Birth is a life-changing event as much as it is life-bringing. A complex array of feelings such as guilt, confusion, frustration and disappointment can hang around like a cloud or build like a wave crashing into the present, all while you adjust to life with your new baby.

As a mother of five, grandmother and birth support person, I am confident to hold a safe space for you to explore and process your unique experience without judgement or shallow response.

I will also write a document for you – a keepsake of your experience and the miracle of your shifted perspective or inner growth.

You may yet emerge with deeper self-understanding, compassion, and love. This is my hope. You in turn can offer that same understanding, compassion and love to the little lives in your care.
